Year 7 is the start of a new and exciting phase in a young person's life and this is a big year - for children and for parents! It is also a time when their use of social media, games and the internet increases, as well as their exposure to alcohol use. Your Year 7 child has been learning about the effects of drinking alcohol and peer pressure in their health classes. Come along to the family event at our school to find out from your child what they have been learning. This event will also include practical information for you and your child to help your child stay safe online and from alcohol use.
Come along to participate in some activities being run by our Year 7 students, to hear from the SDERA team and to meet some of your child's teachers.
Bring your partner, a friend and family members!

From The Home Ec Room Tuesday & Thursday
Tuesday
Year 8's made rock cakes and milk shakes. Students had the option of sultanas or chocolate chips in their rock cakes and 14 of the 16 students chose chocolate chips so not quite a traditional rock cake recipe. We now have 3 milkshake making machines due to a recent find at a garage sale.
Year 9/10's made Jamie Oliver beef tacos with salsa and guacomole. I don't think any food left the home economics room to go home so I assume that this is a successful recipe.
Thursday
The year 8 term assessment task was for students to design their own spaghetti bolognese according to Australian Healthy Eating Guidelines. A wide variety of versions of spaghetti bolognese were prepared and thoroughly enjoyed.
The Year 9/10 cooking task was to make Jamie Oliver beef tacos (with sour cream, which the Tuesday cooking group missed out on). Mrs Leslie also made sausage rolls to assist Mrs Humby with catering for an upcoming SDERA parent night on 20 June.
