Just got easier for our students!
Chess competition continues……………………..
Monday 25th March, the following students made it through from last week to the semi final:
- Dylan Flemming v’s Fern Brookes
- Jordan O’Brien v’s Shanti Seppiyo
- Daniel Rogers v’s the winner of Andrew Wheatley & James Hughes
- Gabriel Ashbil straight through to thE preliminary round!
Despite Jordan pulling every smooth move he had and the game nearly going to stalemate, Shanti pipped him at the end. Fern bulldozed Dylan which leads into our next preliminary game between Shanti Seppiyo v’s Fern Brookes.
Daniel Rogers played Gabriel Ashbil in the other game and faced with a nearly certain loss, Daniel happily admitted defeat at 3 ¼ time sending Gabriel through to the grand final next week.
All games have been played in good spirits, well done to competitors and spectators!
Both Shanti Seppiyo and Fern Brookes are playing for Fire and Gabriel is playing for Sun.
Monday 1st April, Gabriel Ashbil (Sun) played Fern Brookes (Fire). Gabriel had obviously been researching his chess moves and was outright winner in less than 10 minutes with a decisive checkmate after only taking 4 pieces. Congratulations to Gabriel and well done to Fern for showing such terrific sportsmanship!
Year 7 & 8 basketball competition
Tuesday 26th March
Fire v’s Sun – Fire beat Sun but only by 5 points. Jimmy Tweedie, Sam Waters, Josh Scovell, Chelsea Lukins, Alicia Guck and Rory Carter all shone for both teams.
Wednesday 27th March
Sun v’s Ice. Sun annihilated Ice in a show of dominance. Sun beat Ice 17-4 and never ever looked in danger from Ice. Despite Ice's effort to the end, Sun runs off the court straight into Friday's Grand Final.
Thursday 28th March
Ice has been stopped in their tracks yet again. Fire beat a lack lustre Ice by 15 points with Fire never looking challenged. Lots of stars! Special mention goes to Cameron Rodgers and Shanti Seppiyo who continually stole the ball from each other much to the cheering of the huge crowd. The question is – who will be victorious, Fire let by Jimmy or Sun led by Rory?
Grand Final, Fire v’s Sun Tuesday 2nd April
A huge congratulations to FIRE who took out the Year 7 and 8 House Basketball Competition 12-2 in what was a hard physical game! Lots of MVP’s but special mention must go to Jimmy and Rory who led their respective teams on court and also to Dylan Watkins, Tom Dearle and Darcy Craven who did a great job of coaching the younger students.
Teams were organised and managed by Year 9 & 10 House Representatives and other helpers. Billy Applin, thank you for offering to umpire with Ms Old.
