I am very pleased to share with you all that the Broome Tour was a success and feedback from staff, students and parents has been overwhelmingly positive. The students enjoyed some fun activities at the beach, visited the Crocodile Park, Willie Creek Pearl Farm and participated in a Cultural Tour to learn about the traditional custodians of the Broome area. We enjoyed a night at the open air cinema and learnt about our solar system at Astro Tours, as well as shopping and enjoying all that Broome has to offer, including the sensationally warm weather. Our students were a credit to our school and we received very positive feedback about the manners, maturity and attentiveness of our students from many that we interacted with. A huge thank you to Mrs Humby, Mrs Leanne Holdsworth, Mr Schrama and Mrs Hardey for coming along on tour and being such a great help towards the success of the camp.
Given the situation on the Eastern States regarding the pandemic, it seems unlikely that we will have the option of a Canberra trip next year, so an expression of interest has gone out to all parents to gauge interest in a Broome Tour for 2022. If there is sufficient interest, the Broome Tour may be a possibility for next year for students currently in Years 7, 8 & 9.
Best wishes to our Country Week squad who will attend this event next week. Students will participate in Volleyball, Basketball and Netball. Mr Tonai-Moore, Mrs Walker, Mrs Hardy, Mr Pantou, Miss Cicchini and Miss McDonald will supervise and coach our students during the week. I know that these students will participate with good sportsmanship and be a credit to our school.
I would like to let everyone know that I will be away on Long Service Leave from 2nd September until the end of term, but will be back and ready to go on Day 1, Term 4 – Monday 11th October, 2021. Mrs Hardey will also be away for the remainder of the term. It is marvellous that I am able to take this leave knowing that the school is in excellent hands with Mrs Loton as Acting Principal and Mrs Prout and Mrs Walker supporting in Admin. I feel confident that you will give these staff your full support in my absence.
Until Term 4,
Mrs C. A Thorsby
Student Forum Report
Term 3 has been a busy term for the student forum. Our Multicultural Monday’s have been a big hit with the students. For England we had the iconic tea and scones, and for Italy we had Spag Bog. Thankyou to everyone who donated food and a special thanks to Mrs Holdsworth for her amazing vegetarian spag bog.
In support of the Bridgetown Bulldogs, on Friday, we dressed up in our favourite footy colours. There was a lot of yellow and blue going around! Congratulations to the 8/9s for making it to the grand final, colts for making it to the finals and a special congratulations to league and reserves for winning! We also had a wear it purple day in support of the LGBTQI+ youth community.
The house captains have also been very busy. They have held a paper plane comp and a dodgeball comp (which ICE won!). The house captains also now have the mammoth effort of counting house points and PBS points WEEKLY.
Next term our Multicultural Mondays will be having a makeover and becoming Worldwide Wednesdays or WWW for short. Our first one will be in week 2 and it will be Mexican. Stay tuned for more info and listen up in the morning notices.
The House Captains will be organising more exciting events. Also, keep a lookout for the house points which will be displayed on the notice board in the student common room.
Keys 4 Life
These students will be able to present their certificate when applying for a learner’s permit and will be exempt from sitting and paying for the learner’s permit theory test.
Country Week
We would like to wish the Country Week squad all the best for their week in Perth next week and hope they 'bring home the bacon'!From the School Nurse, Felicity Lukins
- Be the kind of adult you want your kids to become. Actively decide to lead by example. Really think about what you do and say (and how you say it) every day.
- Save your energy for important issues. Try to avoid knee-jerk or instinctive reactions, especially if you often disagree. Rather than react immediately, pause to think about whether the issue is important in the long term, and about other ways to respond.
- Remember their brains are easily switched to ‘high alert’. Avoid triggering your teenager’s automatic ‘fight or flight’ response when you want to talk to them. Ask them if it’s a good time to talk; sit down; use a calm, gentle voice; find out more about their feelings.
- Timing is everything. Only talk about problem issues when everyone’s calm and relaxed, not busy, stressed or in a hurry. Schedule a meeting, and agree beforehand that as a family, you will calmly explore issues so you can all get along better.
- Learn a new language. Break the habit of speaking to your teenager as you did when they were younger. Try chatting with them more like you would with a work colleague or acquaintance. Share ideas, offer choices, negotiate; value their contribution.
- Teach risk-evaluation skills. Prompt your teenager to think about potentially risky situations ahead of time, and to consider the likely outcomes of various choices. Rather than lay down the law, ask ‘what if…’ questions and help them to come up with possible options and action plans.
- Stay in touch. Have regular positive conversations about day-to-day activities so you know what your teenager is doing, and keep up to date with new technology. Ask them to show you what they’re interested in and how it works.
- Involve them in making decisions. Allow for change as they become older. Help them take on new responsibilities. Be flexible and let them have a say wherever possible. Hold family meetings so they can contribute ideas and have their opinions heard and valued.
- Turn the ‘need for novelty’ and peer group acceptance into a positive. Help your teenager find supervised group activities they enjoy. Regular activity – even if it’s not sport – and good eating and sleep patterns are vital for physical and mental health. Limit screen time appropriately.
- Be a safe sounding board. Teenagers’ emotions are often intense, and they’re struggling to find their place in the world. Encourage them to discuss new ideas and values at home, without rejection or ridicule. Help them figure out problems and possibilities.

Bridgetown Agricultural Society
Bridgetown High School would like to acknowledge our generous ongoing relationship with the Bridgetown Agricultural Society.
Each year the Ag Society generously supports our students through provision of the Bridgetown Agricultural Society Scholarship. This scholarship is open to Year 9 and Year 10 students who enrol for their following year at one of WA's Colleges of Agriculture.
We encourage our school community to get behind the Ag Society and all the good work their volunteers do and sign up for membership.
Swooping Magpies During Breeding Season
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions would like to remind you that the magpie breeding season is approaching.
It is not uncommon for magpies to defend their nests and young during spring, by swooping intruders. The season may last for six to eight weeks during late August to December.
The flyer below contains precautionery steps that can be taken to avoid the swooping behaviour of magpies and other swooping birds wich may be a very frightening experience for young children.
The Targeted Participation Program is brought to you by the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes in partnership with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, funds from the grant will be used to cover the costs of the Adventure Camp for young people.

A panel of four curators travels to each school selecting works for the show. Bridgetown High School is proud to have had 22 art pieces selected. Feedback from the panel was that they were very impressed with the ideas and quality of the work presented. Well done to all the students involved for their hard work and dedication to creative pursuits.
If you are in Bunbury between 18th September & 21st November, pop into BRAG and support our students.
If your child has a piece in the show, awards night is Friday September 24th 6pm-8pm
