Hello Everyone,
I would like to thank everyone for their perseverance and patience with us during Week 5 and 6 as the COVID 19 situation has made itself well and truly known to us at the school. We have had a number of staff away and at times, up to nearly half of our students. A huge thank you to our staff who have been reduced in number but those who have been here have been magnificent in rising to the challenge of taking combined and extra classes, often with little notice. Our students have also shown great resilience by adapting to modified lessons and classes whilst their regular teacher has been away. Although I sense we may have turned the corner and be on the way down from our peak, there will no doubt continue to be some challenges over the next couple of weeks. Please look after yourselves and keep any child who has symptoms or tests positive, at home.
Due to the disruption caused throughout the state due to the pandemic, the Director General of Education, Lisa Rodgers has given schools permission to alter our reporting processes for this semester. Student reports will include the A to E grades (or equivalent 5 point scale) for required learning areas. Information regarding your child’s attitude, behaviour and effort will continue to be reported. However, comments will not be provided. Should you wish to receive additional information on your child’s progress, you will have the opportunity to discuss this at a parent/teacher afternoon on Wednesday 27th July from 3:30 - 6:30pm. Staff from Manjimup Senior High School will also attend on this afternoon to discuss enrolment and subject selection for Year 10 students enrolling for Year 11 in 2023.
This week, ( 7th – 10th June) is the week we will be celebrating NAIDOC Week at the school. The students will participate in some activities in Music, HaSS, English, Home Ec and Science that explore different aspects of Aboriginal culture or history. Our Year 10 students will visit the Aboriginal Heritage and Culture exhibition in Balingup on Friday. I hope all students take the time to reflect on this part of our history as well as enjoy the planned activities.
The Bridgetown High School Alumni Association will hold its AGM on Saturday 25th June at the school in the library. Anyone who has attended the school in past years is eligible to be an Alumni member and apart from being a wonderful support to the school, it is also a great way to connect with other past students that you may not have seen for years. If you would like more information, please contact Belinda Meehan on belindameehanbeauty@gmail.com.
All the best and take care
