Hello everyone,
Welcome to the end of another very busy and challenging term. I was reflecting recently with another school leader who started in her school at the beginning of 2020, at the same time I started at BHS. She raised the issue that neither of us had seen our schools in anything other than a roller coaster of Covid situations. This is so true and is particularly worth reflecting on after a term that has seen learning disrupted by staff and student absenteeism. It has been very challenging for all and I would like to thank students for their persistence and resilience and also our wonderful staff who continue to accept additional workload to cover for unwell colleagues. I know we are all looking forward to a rest and reset over the holidays.
On a less positive note, the Bridgetown Police have informed me that significant wilful damage has occurred at the local skate park. It is always disappointing when the actions of a few affect the lives of many and it certainly does not fit in with our school expectations of student of Responsibility and Respect. We are also deeply concerned about information we have received that vaping is becoming prevalent not outside of school but at times, in school. The dangers of vaping are well publicised and we do not want to see our young people involved in this activity. Vaping at school will not be tolerated and students will receive a suspension. Both these issues should serve as a timely reminder to parents to monitor their child’s whereabouts and activities during the holiday break.
We hope to see many of you at the Parent Teacher Evening on 27th July 2022. Reports have been sent home this week and this will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teachers and discuss their achievement.
At the end of this term we bid farewell to Mrs Dodson and Ms Campbell who have shared the role of English teacher this term. We have been very grateful to them for stepping in and helping fill that role as without them – we had no one! Ms Jorji Harper joins us from Harrisdale Secondary College to take up our permanent English teacher position and we look forward to welcoming her. Ms Eleni Reidy-Crofts will be joining us next term as one of our PE teachers. We look forward to welcoming Ms Reidy Crofts who comes to us from East Kimberley College and more recently, Cape Naturaliste College. A big thank you to Ms Crozier who has filled in for much of this term in the PE role. Mr Brad will fill the Art teacher role for the rest of this year whilst Ms Jones takes some leave – Best wishes Ms Jones. Mr Schrama will also take some leave and will be replaced by Mr Chris Baker(Rocket) and Mr Jesse Knapp for Music, Mr Mike Kneale for Mountain biking and Mrs Lorraine Cave in Maths. Enjoy your leave Mr Schrama. Ms Cullen will be away for Weeks 1 – 5 in Term 3 and will be replaced by Ms Power. Enjoy your LSL Ms Cullen and once again, thank you to all of our regular staff who have so willingly stepped up and worked so hard this term.
Best wishes for a safe and relaxing holiday,
Mrs Thorsby
