Hello Everyone,
I would like to start this newsletter with a big “shout out” to our P & C members who worked hard on last Friday night, waitressing and helping with the clean-up for the Medieval Feast in Balingup. The ladies worked from 6:30pm until 11:00pm and were very busy. Thank you to Libby Daniels, P & C President; Janine Pierre, P & C Treasurer; Lorri Cave, P & C Secretary; Angie Lawrence and Nadine Pitts. The P & C will profit from the hard work of these ladies and this in turn means more resources and support for all of our students. Please consider joining this group of parents as we are in need of extra helpers and committee members. Meetings are held once a term at the Bridgetown Hotel and run for about an hour. Our next fundraising activity will be a breakfast on the school oval for the Blues at Bridgetown weekend campers on Saturday and Sunday, 12th and 13th November, 2022. Please give the front office of the school a call on 9761 0100 if you are willing and able to give a couple of hours on either of these days.
It was exciting to receive a visit from staff from the Education Department and Department of Finance last week as Camille Sinagra (MCS) and I assisted them with the scope of works for our toilet upgrades. Both the male and female student toilets off the Student Common Room will be gutted and refurbished, with new partitioning, doors and new wall and floor coverings – hopefully vinyl. In addition, the existing store room adjacent to the female student toilets will be converted into an additional set of staff toilets and an additional Universal Access Toilet with a shower. The staff toilets upstairs will also receive a facelift and we will welcome the addition of hot water in both male and female toilets. I am hopeful that this work will commence during the Christmas holidays so that we will have access to the new facilities for the start of the 2023 school year.
Please put aside 10:00am on Friday 16th September, 2022 as the date and time of our end of term assembly. This will be held in the school library and it is the time when we acknowledge student achievement for the term. We would really like to see you there to celebrate these successes as this will be the first occasion for some time that we have been able to have a large gathering in an enclosed space. This is being held at the end of Week 9 due to Country Week in Week 10.
A big thank you to Ms Phillips and Ms Reidy-Crofts for all the work they are doing to ensure our students enjoy a trip to Country Week this year. This year we will field a team in Netball, Volleyball, Badminton and Basketball. Students have been fundraising and recently held a successful street stall and wood raffle – thank you to Ms Phillips for giving up her Saturday morning to support the students. Mrs Mead will coach Badminton; Mr Kneale and Ms Phillips will coach Volleyball; Mrs Jo Hardy will coach Basketball; and Ms Reidy-Crofts will coach Netball. I am also very much looking forward to attending the week in Perth this year, to support and provide extra assistance as needed.
Best wishes everyone and if you are visiting the school, please take time to look at all the work that our gardeners – Ali and Kim – do all year round as our gardens begin to spring into Spring!
