Hello everyone,
Apologies for the lateness of this newsletter. We have been short staffed in the office due to illness and this has delayed our usual timeline.
Many thanks to those parents who attended our parent night on 3rd August. Parent nights are a great opportunity to touch base with your student’s teachers on a face to face basis and to get an in-depth picture of how your student is progressing academically and what their behaviour and attitude has been like. For those of you who were unable to attend, please feel free to contact the school to make an appointment to discuss progress at any time.
Last week, all student were able to benefit from a session on vaping by the Department of Health. These types of sessions are invaluable in educating students about a range of topics, and this one was no exception. Unfortunately, we believe there are students who regularly vape both in and out of school. The school takes a hard line should students be found vaping at school and I would encourage you to talk to your student about the dangers of vaping. Thank you to Mrs Sarah Anderson, our School Health Nurse, who organised the talk and who is available to provide further information to parents should you need it.
This week our Year 10 students leave us to enjoy a week of Work Place Learning. The students are being placed with a range of local employers and experience the world of work rather than the world of school. Thank you to all employers who have agreed to place a student for the week. The skills they learning during this week are so important as is the opportunity to have the experience of working in an industry or profession that they may consider as a career in the future. We wish the students well for the week and thank Ms Philips who has worked hard setting up the placements and completing the required site visits and paperwork.
Year 10 students should also, if they have not already done so, complete enrolment information and subject selections for either Manea College in Bunbury or with Manjimup Senior High School. Even if your student is undecided if or where they will continue on next year, it is important that they complete the enrolment information so that they have a greater chance of getting into the subjects and pathways that they want – just in case. This is preferable to make a late decision and finding that subjects are already full. Mrs Hardey is available to help students and parents with this paperwork so please let her know if you need assistance.
Thank you to all parents who have supported their student in wearing the correct uniform. There has been a noticeable improvement in the standard of dress which is very pleasing to see. Please remember to let us know if for some reason your student is unable to wear the correct uniform due to unforeseen circumstances. If this happens, we are happy to work with you.
Until next time,
Kind regards
Mrs C. A Thorsby
Principal
