Welcome to our end of Term 1 Newsletter. The term always seems to fly past but even more so when we have a short nine week term to start the year.
We are often touched by the generosity of individual parents, members of the community and community groups. So far this year, I would like to share with you some of this incredible generosity:
- Parents who have asked to remain anonymous have come up with and are funding a very generous reward to students to encourage the wearing of hats during PE lessons. Students earn points for each time they wear a hat and then the students with the most points will receive an end of term $100 prize voucher with the runner up awarded a voucher for $50. This prize is being donated per year group, per term, so as you can see, a wonderful donation to help promote skin sun safety.
- Every year for the last 5 years we have received the donation of two new laptop computers for students whose families may struggle to provide one. Students in Years 8, 9 and 10 who are in this position, and have shown responsibility with their school borrowed laptop, are in the running to be awarded one of these machines to keep as their own. Again, a substantial donation from a valued member of our community.
- I would also like to offer a thank you to the Bridgetown Historical Society. Mr Dareff and myself recently met with Mary Elgar who on behalf of the society, offered to fund a History prize for students at our school. Mary also offered to open the local museum at any time for our students. Her visit has formed the basis of a new relationship between the school and this very important community group.
Many thanks to all those involved. Know that you are making a difference to those students who benefit from your generosity either directly or indirectly, and that we are very grateful.
Our first School Council meeting for 2024 will be held on 23rd April at 5:00pm in the High School Library. Please come along if you would like to nominate for a position. This is our annual open meeting, so everyone is welcome even if you do not wish to nominate for a position on Council. I would really like to see as many parents there as possible to hear the Council’s Annual Report and raise any matters you would like Council to be aware of.
We will be celebrating the end of term with a PBS Reward Day on Wednesday. Many thanks to Ms Cullen, Mrs Prout, Ms Reidy-Crofts, Mr Power and Mrs Jo Hardy for putting together a fantastic session for our students. A part of the day will be our World’s Greatest Shave event that has been Coordinated by Ms Harper and our Student Forum Leaders. Please feel free to join us during the lunch break from 12:50 – 1:50pm to watch our courageous students, Pia Brandrett, Cody Best, Tess Chambers and Louis Vitale have their hair shaved for this great cause.
Our end of term assembly will be held this Thursday in the school library. There will hopefully be some performances by some of our Music students and our usual celebration of students’ effort and achievement. The assembly starts at 9:15am.
Have a safe and happy Easter and enjoy the slower pace the holidays bring.
Warm Regards
Mrs C. A Thorsby - Principal
