Hello everyone,
A couple of weeks ago we had the pleasure of hosting the Year 6 students from our feeder schools. They attended for two days of Transition to High School. On one of the days, they had a day of having a “taste” of a number of elective subjects and on day two, the MESH subjects of Maths, English, Science and HaSS. The students that attended were a credit to their own schools of Greenbushes, Balingup, Bridgetown, and St Brigid’s. Furthermore, they gave us some very positive feedback about how much they had enjoyed the experience. A reminder to parents of students intending to enrol at Bridgetown High School, that we would like to be prepared for 2025; so the sooner you enrol your student, the better prepared we can be. Enrolment packs are available to be picked up from the front office. Alternatively, these can be posted or emailed out as needed.
As we continue to enjoy the much-needed wet weather we have been having, a timely reminder that if students are ill and presenting with cold and flu like symptoms, we would appreciate them staying home from school to ensure that others remain in good health. I believe that Covid is continuing to be an issue in the community. Please be advised that the school no longer has access to free Covid test kits and as such, is unable to provide these to students, staff or families.
Unwise and inappropriate use of social media continues to cause friendship issues between students and at times, also, most concerningly puts students at risk of more serious engagement in risk taking behaviours. Whilst the inappropriate use largely appears to happen out of school hours, it often impacts students at the school. I again impress on parents the need to monitor and if necessary, restrict your student’s use of social media, including platforms such as Snapchat. I have attached a link to an educative site on the use of Snapchat Parents' Ultimate Guide to Snapchat | Common Sense Media. It is useful information that amongst other information, dispels the myths that images posted on Snapchat disappear after a short time. I am sure you will find it useful reading.
Next Friday will be the last day of school for Mrs Humby. Many of you will know of Lynn from her time as a EA at this school (and others) and more recently as an accomplished teacher of PE, HaSS and English. Lynn has been a wonderful staff member and has touched the lives of many students over the years. She is a valued member of our team and will be sadly missed when she takes her long service leave for the rest of the year and then explores a new direction in her life. I am sure that I speak for the whole community when I thank Lynn and wish her and Tony well for their future. Lynn will be replaced by one of the accomplished applicants from our recent advertisement for her position. I hope to have this process finalised within the week and will let parents know who our new staff member will be from term 4 onwards. For the last 3 weeks of this term, we are lucky to have Mrs Jo Hack filling this role.
Thank you to all parents and community members who supported the recent Country Week fundraiser stall and wood raffle. Your hard work paid off and over $2000 was raised. Thank you to Ms Reidy Crofts and Ms Phillips for their work on the day. A huge thank you also to the Rotary Club of Bridgetown, who have kindly donated $5000 to pay for the bus transport for the week and Action Drill & Blast who kindly donated $3400 to support our Country Week teams, thus bringing down the cost of the trip for parents. What incredibly kind and generous donations.
Until next time,
Kind regards
Mrs C. A Thorsby
