Hello everyone,
This week, Craig Goulder from the School Council, and myself, along with Ms Cheryl Parkin our Regional Director, sat on the panel to interview candidates for the position of Principal at Bridgetown High School for 2025 whilst I am on leave. It was an interesting process, and I was impressed with not only the high calibre of the applicants who applied but also the high level of interest in the position. I am confident that we have selected a candidate who brings great knowledge, skills, and warmth to the position. I am unable to provide further details at this point until DoE has completed the HR side of the process but as soon as this is completed, I look forward to sharing the persons name with you and providing more information about them. Thank you to Craig for participating in the process which was quite time consuming. The new Principal will commence at the start of the 2025 school year, and I will return in 2026.
This week you will receive an online survey seeking opinions and feedback on a variety of aspects of our school. We do value feedback and would be grateful if you would take the time to complete the survey so we have an indication of what we are doing well and where gaps in service may be. As always, the more returns we get, the clearer the picture we get, so please take the time to complete the survey to assist us.
Student reports will be issued to parents in week 10 of this term. With the recent changes to the reporting procedures, staff have provided a general comment and information on the attitude, behaviour, and effort of your student on the tick box section of the report. If there is a significant positive or negative difference in the report from Semester 1 or any student who is receiving a D or E grade, parents should be notified in advance so that there is opportunity for you to discuss with the learning area teacher why this is the case. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any unresolved concerns.
Our end of year celebratory assembly will be held on Wednesday 11th December 2024 at 12 noon. This is the time that we farewell our Year 10 students and recognise the achievements of students who have either demonstrated significant improvement, given of their best or excelled in each learning area. We also recognise those who have shown outstanding commitment to our school expectations of Resilience, Responsibility, Respect and Kindness. Please save the date and plan to come along and share in this end of year celebration.
Ms Tizard has informed us that she will be resigning her position at the school from the end of this year. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the years of dedicated service that she has given to students in this community. Her knowledge, skills and passion as a Science teacher have inspired many and we wish her well in starting the next chapter of her life. I am happy to say that Ms Tizard will not be totally lost to us as she will be providing us with relief when needed.
Our Year 7 and 9 students had the opportunity to participate in the SALT workshop this week. This workshop is a hand on event where students make a hold all box using a variety of power tools with qualified tradespeople, to keep and take home. It was a great opportunity for students to learn new skills and to broaden their career aspirations and to be out of a classroom having fun. Thank you to Ms Phillips for her work in organising for the group to come to our school.
Until next time
Mrs C. A Thorsby
Principal
