Final Assembly of Term 2
We acknowledged many students across all year groups for their fantastic efforts in Term 2. Congratulations to those students who received an award at this assembly.
Drama Performances
The Year 7 to 10 Drama classes did an amazing job performing for parents and other audience members on Monday 30 June. The Yr8 Drama class held an encore performance the following day for students who visited us from Bridgetown PS and Greenbushes PS. I was very impressed with the quality of the performances by our students. Well done to Ms Cullen for her work with these classes and for organising these showcases of our talented young people.
PBS Reward Day
On the final day of last term, the PBS team ran fun rewards activities to acknowledge the great behaviour of students throughout the term. Students chose from a range of activities from archery to acting. This was well supported by community members, and I want to thank them for giving up their time to come and run these activities. Thank you also to the P&C who provided funds for the lunch and other materials.
Year 10 Transition
Test-A-Trade
Several Year 10 students participated in Test-A-Trade at Manjimup SHS in the last week of Term 2. We appreciate MSHS providing this opportunity for students to have a go at various trades, as part of their pathway research.
Aspirations Camp
Ten of our Year 10 students attended the 3-day camp in Perth arranged by MSHS during Week 1 of this term. We are grateful to the Manjimup staff for providing this awesome opportunity for students to mingle and learn together and start to really think about what they want for their future.
Speaking Out Survey 2025
On Thursday 28th August, BHS will be participating in the SPEAKING OUT SURVEY 2025, conducted by the Commissioner for Children and Young People WA (the Commissioner). The survey will be administered in year groups that day during their Health and Physical Education lessons by staff from the Commissioner’s Office, with support from Mrs Hardey and Ms Reidy-Crofts. The surveys generate reliable data on well-being for West Australian students in Years 4 to 12, and help to understand changes over time. More specific information has already been sent to you; please take the time to read the parent information flyer, and to have your child read the student information flyer.
If your child does not want to participate, or if you do not want your child to participate, it is essential that you complete the Non-Consent Form provided and return it to the school NO LATER THAN MONDAY 25th AUGUST.
New School Chaplain
The school welcomes Debra Cunningham, who is filling in as our School Chaplain for Term 3. Debra is in the school each Friday.
ART AUCTION 23 August
This is the biggest fundraising event for this year by our P&C. It was the brainchild of Mrs Francke, who pitched it to the P&C. The P&C has had amazing community support and donations of artworks. It should be a great night of fun and all funds will go towards projects to make more inviting spaces for students at break times (Student Common Room, play equipment). Come along and support your local high school.

Parent/Teacher Interviews 6 August
As this newsletter comes out, we are about to have our first formal Parent/Teacher interviews for this year. These interviews are conducted as follow up to the Semester 1 reports. We hope that this process gives parents a clear idea of how their young person is progressing at school, and what they can do to support their education. We encourage parents to speak with teachers regularly. If you are unable to attend these interviews, but would like to chat to our staff, please contact the school and we can arrange an appointment or a phone call.
Kelly Anderson
We are starting the term by exploring the elements of drama, specifically space, movement and voice.
On Tuesday, the Year 7s created short plays with a movement focus. They had to mime the actions and the use of any 'props', but we livened things up with some costuming.
They produced very creative pieces. Fun!
Year 7 Home Ec students have started the term making scones. Through this activity they have learnt how to read a recipe, prepare their equipment and measure ingredients accurately. All students did a great job!
The Year 8 Home Economics classes made delicious Chocolate Crackle Cookies to reintroduce them to production skills.
The Year 9/10 Food Specialisation classes are learning about staple foods with a focus on international breads. So far this term they have made Mexican Tortillas with Black Beans, Middle Eastern Pita Bread with Hummus and Israeli Salad, and Indian Roti with Lentil Dahl. Students are learning to make leavened and unleavened breads from scratch!
The Luminos Art Competition Award Recipients
Huge congratulations to Tess Chambers (Year 10) for being an award recipient in the Samaritans Choice Award category. Well done Tess!
Bunbury Flying School Open Day
Bunbury Flying School warmly invites all students with a passion or interest in Aviation to attend our Annual Pilot Open Day held Saturday 11 October 2025.
