From the Principal
Australian Maths Competition
Students across all year groups participated in the Australian Maths Competition in Week 3. Thank you, Ms Old for engaging our students in this challenging event.
Year 10 Work Experience
Year 10 students had a whole week of workplace learning in Week 4. This took a great deal of time and planning by Ms Phillips, and I thank her very much for setting up these opportunities for our students. Work experience provides a very valuable insight into what the world of work is like and it helps students to make well-informed decisions about their future pathways.
Greenbushes PS Science Fair
BHS provided a robotics stall at the Greenbushes Primary School Science Fair held in Week 4. Ms Cockerill took a range of robotic equipment for students to engage with. This was a terrific event and we hope to continue our partnership with GPS and this event next year.
PBS Focus
Who knew that our PBS Focus on Resilience would be tested so unexpectedly in Week 4? The power went out suddenly on Wednesday afternoon and didn’t come back on until Friday mid-morning! Our students were very patient and understanding and managed through this period with excellent resilience. Our current focus is Responsibility:
- Treat property & environment with care
- Be organised
- Be accountable - own your actions
- Be punctual, meet deadlines
- Use your class time well
- Eat food and drink water in breaks
- Go to the toilet at breaks.
Year 7/8 Lightning Carnival
Students in Years 7 & 8 conducted themselves very well at the recent Lightning Carnival, competing in a range of sporting events. Thanks Ms Reidy-Crofts and Mr Power for organising this and for preparing our students to compete.
WARP Robotics Competition at Curtin University
The robotics club, also known as The Carnaby’s, participated in a whole weekend of challenges at the end of Week 5 this term. They were encouraged and supported by our Digital Technologies teacher, Ms Cockerill, and parent volunteers. The students had a great time and learned a lot!
Australian STEM Video Game Challenge
Year 10 student, Tyler Thorpe has made it through to the finals with an original platform style game he has developed, called Unplugged. Congratulations, Tyler, and we are cheering you on for this final stage!
ART AUCTION 23 August
I want to acknowledge the amazing work of our dedicated P&C team, and Holly Francke, who brought them the idea of an art auction. I also want to thank the many artists from the local community who generously donated art works to be auctioned off, or for separate sale. Congratulations to our very own Deputy Principal, Mrs Hardey, who earned runner up for the People’s Choice award with her beautiful photography. Thank you to Mrs Karafilis, who entertained everyone with her music performances throughout the evening and Chris Mott who was our outstanding MC. The night was a huge success!
