Welcome Back!

FROM THE PRINCIPAL, Sara Garcia-Perlines

Sara_G_P.jpgWelcome back to school for third term.

I am very fortunate to be relieving in the principal role this term while Mr Bullied is on leave. In the short time I have been here, I have been made to feel very welcome by staff and students. There is tremendous pride in the school by staff and students alike with a strong focus on success for all students. Set in beautiful grounds, the school reflects a kind and caring community.

Prior to students returning, staff engaged in professional learning. We covered a range of topics to support student learning, with a very practical session run focusing on the effective use of Education Assistants in classes. EAs as they are fondly known, are a valued resource in schools. Additionally, staff commenced work on the school’s self-assessment process by looking at the dimensions by which schools are required to self-assess and provide evidence of achievement, in addition to planning for improvement.  The dimensions around which schools are assessed include:

  • Relationships and Partnerships

  • Learning Environment

  • Leadership

  • Use of Resources

  • Teaching Quality

  • Student Achievement and Progress

Term 3, 2020 will see Bridgetown High School undergo a Public School Review.  The reviews provide feedback to principals and their staff to help improve school performance with feedback given in relation to the six dimensions. They also add to existing quality assurance measures. Staff engagement in these workshops demonstrated high engagement and commitment to a self-assessment process focused on growth and improvement.

I look forward to working with you all, towards a successful and productive term.
