FROM THE PRINCIPAL, Carol Thorsby

Carol_Thorsby.jpg

The term is flying by very quickly and I am happy to say that we have seen an increase of students returning to school as the Covid-19 situation eases.  Strict cleaning regimes are still in place and we are still encouraging social distancing of staff.  Further relaxation of restrictions for schools this week include the “green light” for excursions and incursions, so this means that we can, with caution, recommence our Cadet unit trainings, and the camps for next term. Work Experience can also resume and assemblies can be held outdoors for up to 300 participants.  Parent are now welcome on site but social distancing still applies.  BHS students sadly, will not have the opportunity to participate in Country Week this year, but we hope to be able to offer an outing that offers some of the opportunities normally enjoyed by Country Week participants, at some time next term. A number of children have been away whilst they have cold or flu like symptoms and I would like to thank parents/carers for taking a precautionary approach and not sending children when they are sick.

School lunches are back on in Term 3

I had the pleasure of meeting with Jacqui Jones from Clovers Store last week, to talk about the provision of lunches to students and staff, one day per week next term.

I have enclosed the menu for you to look at.  A revised menu will be provided closer to the end of this term and it includes a burger, as suggested by P and C members. All foods on the menu adhere to School Canteen guidelines and where possible will use ecofriendly packaging.

Students will need to bring money and their order forms to place in the box in the foyer, on Tuesdays, and then lunches will be provided on Thursdays. I am hoping that the response is good so that this is a viable exercise for Jacqui and can continue for at least the rest of the year. Order forms and envelopes will be sent home at the end of this term.  Please give me a call if you would like any more information.

Despite the disruption to schooling in Semester 1, staff are busy preparing student reports to be sent home at the end of term as usual.  The Education Department is very clear that students should not be disadvantaged in their report due to absences associated with the pandemic, so the reports will not have a grade assigned to students.  However, comments about student progress will be issued.

Our thoughts are with the Hughes family as we wish James a speedy recovery from his serious injury at the school last week.  I can assure parents that whilst all staff take safety very seriously, and despite their best efforts, accidents can happen.  There is a full investigation by outside agencies taking place, that aims at helping us takes steps to ensure that the risk of such accidents is even greater reduced in the future.

On a more positive note, I would like to share the achievements of Tara Chadwick with you. Tara recently won a state-wide colouring competition hosted by our local Newspower Newsagent, Bridgetown Newsagency.  Sponsored by ACCO. Hayley from the Bridgetown Newsagency presented Tara with her prize yesterday, which was a stationery pack to the value of $200 for herself and a $500 pack for the school. Well done Tara and thank your Bridgetown Newsagency.

Until week 9,

Warms Regards

Mrs C. A Thorsby
