MOVING TO SECONDARY SCHOOL

Year 6-7 Transition

Over the past fortnight, Bridgetown High School has had the pleasure of hosting just over fifty Year 6 students for two mornings of transition.

Students from Bridgetown, St Brigid’s, Greenbushes and Balingup Primary Schools all attended the high school and participated in a series of transition lessons, giving our incoming students a realistic idea of the sorts of subjects they will be studying in 2021 as Year 7 students.

After a comprehensive tour of the buildings and grounds by some of our current Year 7s, the Year 6s did some acting in Drama, mixed chemicals in Science, drew some amazing bubbles in Visual Art, got their bodies moving in Phys Ed, created a 3D house in Technology, and gained a better understanding of other subjects such as Photography and HaSS.

The response was overwhelmingly positive and everyone seemed to enjoy their two mornings! These visits also gave staff an opportunity to get to know many of the students ahead of two full days of transition towards the end of the year.

Year 6 Parent Information Presentations

On Thursday 30th July, the parents of our 2021 Year 7 cohort were invited to attend one of two parent information sessions presented by Mrs Jo Loton – the Year 7 & 8 Program Coordinator. A tour of the buildings and grounds was also included – with a priceless moment occurring when parents dropped into the Home Economics room to see Year 7 students sewing and even ironing the aprons they had proudly made!

The aim of the presentations was to help transition parents to Year 7 by providing them with an understanding of what BHS can offer their child, an insight into our middle school approach as well as the ways in which parents can still support their child as they begin their high school journey.

It was a pleasure to meet the parents who attended and we hope we were able to provide some valuable information.

If you are the parent of a 2021 Year 7 student and were not able to attend the presentation but would still like a tour of the school, please contact the Front Office on 9761 0100 to make an appointment.
