Year 7 Orientation

During the afternoon of Wednesday 11th February, our new Year 7s gathered in the School Library and participated in an afternoon of activities designed to provide them with further information about Bridgetown High School. Students participated in some fun ‘getting to know you’ games, before breaking into groups and completing quizzes and other activities.

On Thursday 12th February, Mrs Loton, Mr Pantou, Mr Kneale and Mrs Holdsworth escorted the students to the Bridgetown Recreation Centre where we were met by Mike Cornish from Squash Magic. Students participated in some awesome team building games for the morning, many of which encouraged clear communication and fostered cooperative participation. Students rotated through the climbing wall, basketball slam dunk, twister and indoor hockey – before a ‘play off’ was held. Finally, the students all came together for a four-way tug of war!

At the end of the morning session, The Boys and The Girls was the most successful team! However, the remaining three teams were highly competitive.

After lunch, the group moved to the pool and the sun finally decided to shine brightly! Mr Pantou and Big Mike organised some structured pool activities that were hotly contested.

Aviarna L, Riley T, Noah W and Siena P were the winners of the tiniest splash competition, whereas Riley W and Ryan L were the overall winners of the bombie competition. Tilly B, James R, Henry F and Siena P also proved that they were impressive duck divers – diving for submersibles.

Overall, staff were very pleased with the behaviour and level of participation from all students during Orientation, and we can only hope the students gained something from the programme – whether it was a new friendship, connection or discovering something new about themselves!
