FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hello Everyone,
Once again the term has flown by, a testament to how busy it has been.
Staff have again been very busy, completing their end of semester reports. Reading the reports always gives me a great sense of where each student is at and, overwhelmingly, I am always impressed with not only those students who have worked towards a high grade but also those who have worked for excellence. Not all are able to achieve the highest grade, but all are able to try their hardest and I am pleased that most students do this. I encourage parents to take time to read through the report with your child, celebrate the successes and reflect and plan on the areas for improvement. Parents are invited to the Parent Interview night on Thursday 22nd July 2021 (Week 1, Term 3) to discuss the report with staff. I urge you to take up this opportunity so we can work together to improve outcomes for your child.
I am very pleased to announce that Mr Mike Kneale, one of our invaluable Education Assistants was nominated for and been awarded a “Making a Difference Award”. These awards are a recognition of those in education who go over and above to make a difference in the lives of students. “Big Mike” is a stalwart at our school and apart from the supportive role he plays in classrooms, spends hours of his own time and his own money to provide delicious baked treats for students, support our Student Forum fundraisers and provide for staff morning teas. I have lost count of the donuts, bread rolls, hot crossed buns, focaccia, cheese scrolls etc that Mike has made, and all at no cost. He also volunteers his time before school to help Yuko in the Breakfast Club and often gives up his break times to be out in the playground mixing with the students. The “Making a Difference” Award is presented on behalf of the Director General of Education Lisa Rodgers and, as such, is a most prestigious award. Congratulations, Mike, on a well-earned and well-deserved recognition!
In the final week of this term, some of our lucky Year 10s enjoyed a week at Manjimup SHS at “Try a Trade”, where they were able to experience a transition program at MSHS and sample some of the classes that they may undertake next year. This is another example of how our students have access to top quality opportunities. It is also an opportunity for them to represent our school and our community in a different setting. Another example of how our students “hold their own” is on a much larger scale. Some of our students recently participated in the Australian Geography Competition and I am very proud that of the 18 students who entered, we received two Distinctions and three Credits. Well done to all involved!
Best wishes everyone, for a safe, happy and relaxing holiday.
