PBS

The school's values were developed as part of our PBS (Positive Behaviour Support) program.  PBS is an evidence-based framework which uses a multi-tiered system of support.  Tier 1 - universal supports, applied to all students.  Tier 2 - targeted supports, applied to small groups of students.  Tier 3 - intensive supports, applied to individual students.  PBS at BHS is led by a team of staff and students, who use data to identify areas of need and then create systems and practices to promote positive behaviour.  PBS is based on the idea that positive behaviours can be taught, just like any other aspect of the curriculum.  BHS takes an educative approach when managing student behaviour.  An important aspect of PBS is defining the behaviours expected of students.  These are described under the four values of kindness, resilience, responsibilty and respect.  Students are acknowledged for demonstrating positive behaviour through our PBS points system and end of term reward days.

Our Values:

Kindness – Be aware of your impact on others, be positive and encouraging, take care of yourself and others, be inclusive, share spaces and resources.

Resilience – Keep going even when things are hard, demonstrate self-control, accept consequences for behaviour, ask for help, accept feedback, lose or win with grace, be patient.

Responsibility – Treat property and the environment with care, be organised, be accountable, be punctual, meet deadlines, use class time well, use break times to eat and take toilet breaks.

Respect – Follow instructions, recognise and value differences, use appropriate language and noise level, allow others to learn and to teach, use manners, be an active listener, play fairly, put rubbish in the bin.
